Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient repairing and splicing of conveyor belting including:

selecting and using the required tools and equipment

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information

applying site safety information

using hand and power tools

applying marking out techniques

disposing of environmentally sensitive oils, fluids and materials

works effectively with others to repair and splice conveyor belting that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to coordinate work activities

demonstrates completion of the repairing and splicing of conveyor belting that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

sharpening knives

operating pulling and lifting equipment

completing splicing operation

completing belt repairs

locating, positioning, making safe and cleaning the belting

inspecting conveyor and auxiliary equipment

testing conveyor belting

returning conveyor to service


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in repairing and splicing conveyor belting:

accessing, interpreting and applying organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

site operations

slinging and lifting

hazardous chemicals

site equipment and maintenance

site inventory (parts) systems

marking out

site environmental issues and constraints

identifying operations, characteristics, capabilities and limitations of vulcanising presses

identifying and using specialised cutting tools and conveyor belt types
